USAID’s Strengthening Systems for Better Health (SSBH) Activity is a 6-year project aimed at improving health outcomes in Nepal, particularly for the most marginalized and disadvantaged groups in the country. SSBH supports the Government of Nepal’s efforts to expand access to and use of quality maternal, newborn and child health and family planning services, with a specific focus on newborn care and is designed to achieve three major outcomes:

(i) improving access to and utilization of equitable healthcare services,
(ii) improving the quality of 
health services at facility and community levels and
(iii) improving health systems governance, within the context 
of federalism.

The project is implemented in close collaboration with the Ministry of Health and Population at federal level and with provincial and municipal governments, health facilities and other key health sector stakeholders at sub-national levels.

SSBH is recruiting new team members to plan, manage and deliver technical and material support for the Government of Nepal’s (GoN) response to the COVID-19 pandemic.

Project: Strengthening Systems for Better Health Activity

Supervisor: Health Emergency Response Manager  

The Program Support Officer reports to the Health Emergency Response Manager, and will perform regular support in correspondence to the team and government counterparts, record keeping, organizing events and training, documentation and managing the cross-learning visits. Specific tasks include:

  • Provide technical, logistical and, when required, administrative backstopping to the SSBH’s province team to support project implementation.  
  • Provide assistance to the province team in compilation of project reports, province-wise data generation and preparing deliverables on routine basis.  
  • Support district team to produce success stories, case studies, document them and include the selected story in routine report.
  • Maintain hard copies and electronic versions of project archives, guidelines generated by project and GoN, including orientation, training and workshop reports, consultant’s documents, project deliverables, minutes of meetings, and project progress reports.
  • Support Health Emergency Response Manager in preparing district/province-wise major project progress and upcoming plan to share within or outside the project. 
  • Support drafting of letters and maintain records of official correspondence between project and government of Nepal offices, and other key stakeholders.  
  • Support in preparing logistic distribution plan to the district in close coordination with district team and administrative team of province and center. 
  • Support Monitoring and Evaluation and Learning (MEL) team in collecting and synthesizing the data from the districts and province. 
  • Support admin and finance team to follow up with program teams to collect any missing documents that is urgent for advance release, settlement and reimbursement.

Position requires up to 20% travel to SSBH operational areas in the districts of Karnali and Lumbini Provinces.

Skills Prerequisites:

  • Bachelor’s degree in Public Health or related field.
  • Minimum four years of relevant experience 
  • Ability and willingness to work/travel in remote areas within short notice in the context of COVID-19 and working on tight deadlines with multiple priorities. 
  • Strong organizational and computer proficiency skills including Nepali typing, preparing PowerPoint slides, and proficiency in Database management using Excel and/or other database management platforms 
  • Demonstrated knowledge of the public health system in Nepal, along with a solid understanding of the federal system of government.
  • Excellent writing and editing skills in English.
