KOICA started its assistance to Nepal in 1991. In the beginning, KOICA activities were carried out through the Embassy of the Republic of Korea in Nepal. In 1995, KOICA Nepal Office was established. In 2013, Nepal was selected as one of the priority countries of the government of Korea and since then KOICA’s support for Nepal has been increasing gradually. KOICA provides a variety of development programs: standalone grant aid projects including Development Experience Exchange Partnership (DEEP) and technical cooperation, fellowship programs for government officials of Nepal, experts, and volunteers programs, Civil Society Organization (CSO) programs, multilateral cooperation and public-private partnership programs. KOICA Nepal office always puts its emphasis on supporting Nepal’s national development goals and KOICA always encourages the ownership of the government of Nepal. Currently, KOICA Nepal Office has identified the health, education, rural development/agriculture, and energy sector as its priority sectors based on the current country Partnership Strategy (CPS). KOICA selects its area of cooperation on the basis of the needs of the partner countries and the added advantage of Korea’s knowledge and experience. KOICA Nepal Office works closely with the Government of Nepal and the relevant stakeholders.

The Korea International Cooperation Agency (KOICA) has been working in Nepal as a bilateral agency, undertaking development cooperation programs on behalf of South Korean Government. KOICA is implementing various County Projects, dispatch of volunteer and Fellowship programs.

KOICA is looking for an experienced and qualified Nepali national to fill the following position:

Position : Program Officer
Contract Duration : 3 months' Probation, Official contract would be continued yearly base after a performance review
Duty Station : KOICA Nepal Office, Jwagal, Lalitpur (with frequent visits to project sites)
Office Hours : Full-Time (09:00-17:00), Monday to Friday
Expected time of starting the duty : 3 rd June, 2024

Job Responsibilities:

  • Responsible for duty assigned by Country Director (CD), Deputy Country Director (DCD) and Assistant Country Director (ACD).
  • Responsible for overall management and any necessary work related to the assigned KOICA Country Project or ODA Program; project and program update, documentation, coordination, networking and etc, with Ministries and related stakeholders.
  • Undertaking of all the necessary activity (project progress, follow up, necessary interventions, attending meetings, program review, maintain contacts, network and etc) with regards to KOICA’s ODA Programs.
  • Responsible for undertaking jobs related to overall VAT refund of projects implemented by KOICA Nepal Office.
  • Perform overall administrative duties with regards to assigned KOICA Country Projects
  • Maintains cordial relation with Ministries, Korean Organizations, Korean team (Project Management Committee) and other related stake holders.
  • Conduct sector specific research work especially in Agriculture/ Health/ Environment or any other related sectors as assigned by CD/DCD/ ACD.
  • Performs any other administrative duties as assigned by CD/DCD/ ACD.

Required Qualification:

  • Master’s Degree in Agriculture/ Health / Environment or any other development disciplines.
  • Minimum 5 years of work experience in Project management in sectors like Agriculture/ Health /Environment or any other development sector
  • Fluency in the Korean language (speaking, listening)- PREFERABLE (writing skills in Korean language will be an advantage)
  • Academic Background from Korean Universities will be an advantage
  • Excellent Communication and Translation skills
  • Proficient Nepali and English language skills (speaking and writing good reports)
  • Nepali Citizen with good health condition.
  • Multi-tasking and good interpersonal skills
  • Excellent computer skills (including MS Word, Excel, PowerPoint and Outlook)
