Company Profile

Room to Read seeks to transform the lives of millions of children in developing countries by focusing on literacy and gender equality in education. Working in collaboration with local communities, partner organizations and governments, we develop literacy skills and a habit of reading among primary school children, and support girls to complete secondary school with the relevant life skills to succeed in school and beyond. We are non-governmental, non-religious and work with many local NGOs and community based organizations to implement our programs.

The Country Director is the highest position in Room to Read's in-country organizational structure. The Country Director will steer the in-country senior management team and is ultimately responsible for all aspects of Room to Read's in-country programs. This position requires ability to lead and oversee the in-country staff in strategic and tactical execution of current and prospective work. The duties will include staff management, organizational development, developing and maintaining relationship with key partners, community building and training, compiling various program, financial, and donor reports, and managing the project funds in accordance with the organization's procedure.

Job Description

- Assume overall management, development and implementation activities of all programs.
- Track the organizational progress, direct the management team and supervise appropriate staff for timely work execution with quality. Also need to ensure organization's legal compliance in Nepal.
- Oversee recruitment, training, agreements, appraisals ensuring capacity building needs.
- Develop ideas that address organizational priorities and conduct strategic and operational planning exercises.
- Work with relevant in-country and headquarter staff to strengthen and improve program impact and sustainability.
- Provide management expertise and leadership to a technically diverse team and create a work environment that promotes high performing teams.
- Meeting and networking with NGOs, government officials and appropriate education facilities/authorities.
